On 25th May 2018, the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enters into force. Its goal is to strengthen personal data protection rights concerning living individuals through number of changes. These include the right of an individual to know what personal data an organization holds about them and how that data is processed as well as other privacy rights. For further information about changes brought about by GDPR please visit the website of your national Data Protection Authority.
Recently, we have contacted all domain registrars in a variety of ways including through email, mass media (TASR, SME, Pravda, TouchIT, Dobré noviny), as well as holding a workshop explaining why compliance with GDPR is important and significant.
The new data protection law has required SK-NIC to change the Terms and Conditions for registration of .sk domains. These changes have been subject to the public comment period, to which all registrars were invited to participate.
The Terms and Conditions for registration of .sk top-level domain, compliant with GDPR, were approved on April 10th, 2018 by the Committee for Administration of the .SK National Domain. The members of the Committee include representatives of the Slovak government, representatives of internet users, internet service providers as well as those of registrars. The result of the Committee vote was reported in a number of prominent media outlets including TASR, SME, Živé, TOUCHIT, 24 hodín, hlavné.sk.
