Nowadays, it is possible to spread awareness in several ways – by writing professional articles, by discussions, via experiential trainings or via filming and sharing videos. If we the video is created with enough minutes, a well-developed script, a cast, high-quality technical processing and, above all, a great supporting idea, it becomes a movie. A film that can engage and convey a message.
The film “Who is next?” is exactly such a project. It had its premiere in August 2019 and the main creator behind it is Miro Drobný, among other things, the author of the Ovce.sk project.
SK-NIC supported creation of this film and continues to support its message!
The book about the movie “Who’s Next?” contains number of facts that are terrifying by their very existence. A few examples:
- teenagers spend on average up to 1500 hours (60 days) a year on the Internet and during that time they are exposed to all kinds of influence,
- 2013 research from Slovakia states that half of all the young people encounter cyberbullying on the Internet – although mostly they don’t tell anyone about it,
- in 2015, more people died from dangerous selfies than from shark attacks; within years 2014-2016 it was up to 127 persons,
- aup to 800 million children in the world use Internet, making up more than a quarter of the total number of 3 billions of Internet users,
- it is estimated that up to 270,000 videos or images capturing the sexual abuse of minors are added to websites every day.
All this forced the film’s creator to produce a work that depicts difficult topics in an engaging, modern, authentic way, acceptable for young people. The fact that he succeeded is proven not only by many laudatory comments on the Internet or elsewhere (quite a few of them were also written by teachers and tutors), but also by several international awards. It is even broadcasted on Netflix, which is unheard of for original Slovak films.
On September 29, 2021, the film “Who’s next?” won its already 25th (!) award in a row. This award has appeared as a result of the ECPA 2021 national round (European Crime Prevention Award) on the topic “Bullying and violence among minors (online and offline)”, organized by the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
The movie “Who’s next?” won 1st place.
We hereby congratulate Mr. Drobný and his entire creative team! We are very pleased with the success of this work. Not only that officially measured by the number and importance of its awards, but especially by the young viewers number of views and their interest into this topic.
We believe that thanks to similar projects, the Internet will one day become a safer place for everyone!
