As we previously announced during the summer, we are preparing to launch a new auction phase in the lifecycle of .sk domains this autumn.
With the introduction of this change, domains scheduled for deletion after the expiration of the protection period will enter a new phase of their lifecycle – the auction phase – prior to actual deletion. During this phase, all interested parties will have an equal opportunity to acquire the expiring domain.
As with the current release of previously prohibited 1-, 2-, and 3-character domains, the process here will be also executed via the SK-NIC auction system.
The terms and conditions for the auction phase of the .sk domain lifecycle have already been published in a separate document on the SK-NIC website; we will provide further updates regarding the important dates.
We would like to remind you that, under the new terms, any registrar will be able to handle the registration of a won domain using a new function in the registrar console and a new EPP extension featuring a registration code (or allocation token). To use this extension, a simple modification to EPP communication on the registrar’s side will be required – technical details can be found here.
