On January 1st 2020 SK-NIC, a.s. – .sk Domain Registry launched a new additional service for DNSSEC called CDS scanning.
The first scanning identified more than 5000 domains, which have been added to the domains secured with DNSSEC, thus increasing the number of secure domains with the most beautiful .sk extension to more than 125,000!
Since the launch of DNSSEC on April 2019, Slovakia became a part of a group of leaders in the share of domains secured with this higher standard. Currently we have secured more than 30% of all .sk domains, and that is great! In 2020 we want to continue raising the security standard of the provided services and thus contribute to higher security of virtual Slovakia.
This step is positively evaluated by Mr. Jaroslav Kmeť, General Manager of the IT Department of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Investments and Informatization: „Automatic activation of DNSSEC on servers and thus the CDS scanning service itself places the Slovak .sk domain among the leaders in the virtual world and brings a higher standard of services to the Slovak domain holders.“
The CDS scanning service works as an automatic DNSSEC activation based on domain name servers’ data without a need for a Registrar to enter the data to the domain registry. More detailed technical information can be found in the documentation on the SK-NIC website.
Only two top level domains, .ch (Switzerland) and .cz (Czech republic), have had this state-of-the-art technology in the DNSSEC field. Slovakia thus became the third country which has launched it!
